Skyscraper on the Main Square
Zagreb Eye is a business skyscraper in the capital of the Republic of Croatia. It is located on Ban Jelacic Square, and its official address is Ilica 1. History marks it as the first business skyscraper in Croatia.
The construction started in 1957 and lasted for a year. The main architects of the project were Slobodan Jovicic, Josip Hitil and Ivan Zuljević, while the main investors were Koncar and Ferimport. The Illuminated Skyscraper was the first building in the former Yugoslavia that had an aluminum façade. The skyscraper opened on August 22, 1959, and was opened by Veceslav Holjevac, then mayor of Zagreb at that time. Apart from the façade, the building was known as the highest business skyscraper after the opening its opening. In 2007, the façade was restored by placing a dark glass panel.
