The Museum of contemporary art was founded in 1954 with the aim of monitoring, documenting and promoting events, in relation to contemporary art. Since the very beginning of its activity, it began to create a fundus and acted as a museum institution in accordance with contemporary museum principles.
In 2003, begun a construction of a new museum building, according to the project by architect Igor Franic on one of the main roads that is an important link between the historical center and New Zagreb.
The north side of the building, facing the city park, is aimed for outdoor exhibitions. The ground floor is entirely dedicated to various visitors’ facilities – from space to workshops, libraries with reading room, to smaller exhibition space, multimedia halls, museum shops and restaurants.
