The Museum of Contemporary Art and foundation
The Museum of contemporary art was founded in 1954 with the aim of monitoring, documenting and promoting events, in relation to contemporary art. Since the very beginning of its activity, it began to create a fundus and acted as a museum institution in accordance with contemporary museum principles.
In 2003, begun a construction of a new museum building, according to the project by architect Igor Franic on one of the main roads that is an important link between the historical center and New Zagreb.
The north side of the building, facing the city park, is aimed for outdoor exhibitions. The ground floor is entirely dedicated to various visitors’ facilities – from space to workshops, libraries with reading room, to smaller exhibition space, multimedia halls, museum shops and restaurants.
Exhibition space and works
The exhibition space is divided into three floors, and with their diversity they allow for a flexible relationship of permanent setup and space for occasional exhibitions. Moreover, it provides a variety of opportunities for realization of the most demanding exhibition projects.
In the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art today there are about 12.000 works of contemporary art, works of Croatian and foreign authors created after 1950. The smaller part of the works are works from the first half of the 20th century whose presence is essential for understanding modern and contemporary art in general.
The museum contains the following collections: Collection of Drawings, Graphics, Posters and Papers, Film and Video Collection, Photo Collection, Media Art Collection, Sculpture Collection and the Collection of Painting.
Largest external screen
The display screen from outside of the building covering most of the western side is the largest screen of that type in this part of Europe.

Mon-Sun 11.00-18.00; Sat 11.00-20.00; closed on Monday
Every first Wednesday of the month entrance is free for visitors.
